The Council of the City of Eddyville met in regular session on
Monday, May 7, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. in City Hall.
Council Members present: John R. Johnson, Jim Durst, Larry Harding,
Dwight Lobberecht.
Council Members absent: Lance Johnston.
Johnson moved, seconded by Durst to approve agenda as presented. AYE: 4.
NAY: 0. Motion carried.
Harding moved, seconded by Johnson to approve minutes of meeting in
April and bills for April payable in May 2007. AYE: 4. NAY: 0. Motion
carried.
Nick Trimbeiger from AREA XV RPC was present to have the Wapello County
Pre-Disaster Mitigation Local Planning Meeting. He was present to
identify Hazards, both man-made and Natural and to get the council’s
ideas of what they thought the worst hazards were. He will be back for
another meeting to review plans and ideas.
Durst moved, seconded by Harding to approve beer permit for Eddyville
Market. AYE: 4. NAY: 0. Motion carried.
Harding introduced Resolution 2007-05-008 and moved its adoption, a
resolution proclaiming Iowa School Board Recognition Week May 13-19,
2007, seconded by Johnson. AYE: Johnson, Durst, Harding, Lobberecht.
NAY: 0. Resolution passed.
Harding moved, seconded by Durst to have the Mayor and Lobberecht
continue talks with Mahaska Co. about annexing Palmer Ave in the city.
AYE: 4. NAY: 0. Motion carried.
Johnson introduced Resolution 2007-05-009 and moved its adoption, a
resolution directing the Mayor to participate in the IDOT Small Town
Sign Replacement Program and apply to receive Traffic Control Signing
Materials from the IDOT, seconded by Harding. AYE: Durst, Harding,
Lobberecht, Johnson. NAY: 0. Resolution passed.
Lobberecht moved, seconded by Harding to increase the summer time help
as needed not to exceed 40 hours per week. AYE: 4. NAY: 0. Motion
carried.
Harding moved, seconded by Durst to turn the street project over to
Lobberecht to help with the specs for the project. AYE: 4. NAY: 0.
Motion carried.
Harding moved, seconded by Johnson to let Houser proceed with the rental
of a street sweeper. AYE: 4. NAY: 0. Motion carried.
Mike Grim was present to give the library report; he told the council
there are several good things happening at the library. Also the
Eddyville Library has been chosen to receive a Certificate of Merit for
their 2007 “Kids Count!” Award for Excellence in Service to Youth
Researchers.
The yard waste disposal site was discussed. The gates are up but the
people still need a place to put yard waste. The Mayor, Lobberecht, and
Harding will have keys to the gates, if someone needs to dump they will
call city hall and the clerk will get a hold of one of these three
people to open the gates. We will try this and see how it works out.
