Upcoming Blogs

It has been awhile since I have written about the Eddyville city government on the Eddy-View Blog. I do try to attend every official city council meeting including committee meetings. This is also true of the School Board Meetings. Very few people can find the time to attend these meetings and so most people have to depend on the newspaper accounts which primarily cover the highlights of the meetings. In my blogs, I will not try to repeat what is covered by the newspapers but will cover the meetings from a personal perspective. The coverage on certain items will be in much more detail and depth including some of the behind the scenes or “unofficial” versions of what actually takes place.
The last time I commented on a city council meeting was on the Forum under the heading of “Heard Around Town” and under the sub-heading of “City Meetings,” dated January 8, 2010. This was a lengthy report on the council’s January 4, 2010 meeting. But I feel this type of report is better suited for the Eddy-View blog. The last time I commented on a city council meeting on the blog was November 6, 2009 which was titled: “Magic at City Hall.” It is a coincidence that my next blog will start where I left off. The magic will continue – a subject that disappeared last year will suddenly reappear at the next council meeting on Monday, February 1, 2010. Someone must have said the magic word. (If you are wondering what this is all about, go back and read the blogs written on November 4th and 6th.)
There will also be blogs on the School Board Meetings. Presently, based on a projected drop in student enrollment and reductions in state funding, the school will have to make drastic cuts in its budget for the coming fiscal year. This may include a reduction in the number of teachers and possibly moving the middle school either to the high school or the Eddyville grade school. A 15-member “Cost Savings Committee” has been appointed to study this issue and to make recommendations to the school board at the board meeting scheduled for February 22nd. The committee has met two times so far and will meet again this coming Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
There will be several blogs by next week. So, stay tuned.
